The Argonauts - Maggie Nelson

10/10... What a book... I've had a lot of trouble explaining what this book is about. It's definitely about queerness and love and family and all the messy little complexities in them, but like, man. She Gets it. Despite very few of the gender discussions in the book being directly about transness, I don't think I have connected with writing like this before. Starting a "want to reread" list on my books page because I want to come back to this after I've processed it a bit.
Voices from Chernobyl - Svetlana Alexievich

9/10. Based on some of the interviews chosen for the book, it feels a bit like a meditation on how to write or talk about something at this scale at all. The "oral history" format is the most human choice I think. And while the whole book is imactful, the first and last stories—both from widows—really got to me.
Flaming Iguanas - Erika Lopez

7/10. I was told I have a knack for finding geuninely unhinged roadtrip books. I think this is unfair as I have only read two so far. That being said please reach out if you have any recommendations because I think I am becoming quite fond of them. Absolutely not a book for everyone, but if you can handle just being along for the ride its a pretty fun read. I also really the format of the printed book, its this very particular font printed on brown paper and its filled to the brim with all sorts of doodles and vintage stamps.
Nothing Is True and Everything Is Possible - Peter Pomerantsev

8/10, really interesting look into the instense atmosphere and media of post-soviet Russia. I do think that it is a bit of a shame that the book is already a decade old, considering one of the main points is how fast things change I do wonder what the same book would look like today.
