BOOKS

recently read [full list]

Midnight in Chernobyl - Adam Higginbotham

November 2025

8/10. Another reread and audiobook. Honestly had an easier time with all the names this time around, even while listening and unable to refer back to the big list. Despite that, I find it somewhat hard to follow everything in this book, but I enjoy the writing, and the broader points still hit.
all about love - bell hooks

November 2025

8/10, also an audiobook pick! Easily the best part of the book for me was the chapter on loss and grief. I don't have anything particularly insightful to say about it, but man.........
Mastering the Art of Soviet Cooking - Anya Von Bremzen

November 2025

Still 10/10 I think. This is both a reread, and my first audiobook in a while! Wanted to try out borrowing audiobooks from my local library to pass the time at work, and figured coming back to one of my recent favorites would be a good way to try out the format. (highly recommend checking out the libby app if you can use it where you're at) STILL haven't tried making any of the recipes yet, which I really need to get around to.
Annihilation - Jeff VanderMeer

October 2025

7/10 I think? I definitely liked it, but I felt a little lost at some points. I really liked the prose style and the way the story is narrated though, and the relationship between the biologist and her husband got to me. ow. Still deciding if/when I'll read the other books in the series.
The Argonauts - Maggie Nelson

September 2025

10/10... What a book... I've had a lot of trouble explaining what this book is about. It's definitely about queerness and love and family and all the messy little complexities in them, but like, man. She Gets it. Despite very few of the gender discussions in the book being directly about transness, I don't think I have connected with writing like this before. Starting a "want to reread" list on my books page because I want to come back to this after I've processed it a bit.
